$500 to $2000 range

Trail cams are battery powered or sometimes they have a small solar panel. These are the lowest priced (and lowest performing) cameras available. Some models have cellular connectivity, infrared LED lights for operating in low or zero light. These are not live cameras, they take a snapshot when motion is detected.

 

 

$2000 to $5000 range

Eyetrax solar powered cameraThe next step up are solar powered camera systems that take a snapshot at timed intervals or when motion is detected, and send this snapshot/video clip to the vendors server, where you access your images from, using the vendors user interface. Because these type of systems are turned on only when a snapshot is taken or motion is detected, they require a minimum sized solar electric power system. These system types typically charge monthly fees ranging from $50 to $500 per camera for the cellular data usage, hosting of your images, providing you with the user interface to access your images and time lapse features. These system types usually DO NOT offer live viewing as this would require the system to be powered up and operating 24/7/365.

$5000 and up

If you require a live camera system, the solar plant must be designed to power both the camera and any other devices such a radio for a point-to-point wireless link or 4G/LTE cellular router,  24/7/365 at your geographic location.

Notes:

When using a point-to-point wireless link, this usually requires clear line of sight between the radios…1 radio at camera location, 1 radio at location with 110V AC power and internet service.

When you add devices, the solar electric plant must be resized and repriced to accommodate increased power load requirements.
