When to Use Point-to-Point Wireless
Point-to-point wireless communications (also referred to as a wireless link or a wireless bridge) is often a very efficient and effective alternative to running cat5/6 cabling between a camera and the head end location where a high speed internet connection is usually (but not always) available.
While most wireless links are often less than a mile in length, it is possible to send video up to 20 miles using high powered radios and the proper antennas.
How it works
A typical wireless link consists of 2 radios and antennas, aimed at each other. 1 radio/antenna is at the camera location, the other radio/antenna is at the headend location where video can be stored to a network video recorder and/or connected to high speed internet service to allow access from anywhere.
